We are located on the northeastern slope of the Poás Volcano on the Caribbean side of the Continental Divide at an altitude ranging from 4,200 ft. to 5,225 ft. (1,300 m to 1,600 m). This altitude provides us with both cloud and rain forest vegetation. Although the summit of Poás Volcano is 8,174 ft. (2,515 m), the mountain range averages about 6,000 ft (1,850 m) in elevation and therefore causes the maximum precipitation to occur below us at a level of about 3,000 ft. (925 m). In the areas above 3,000 ft. the weather becomes less rainy and foggier, therefore establishing a cloud forest environment at altitudes above 4,500 feet (1,400 m).
